I'm actually feeling a mighty temptation to give WoW another whirl myself. I only have the first expansion and don't see much reason to grab Lich King until I get to the higher levels, will it screw me in some way I don't know about if I grab Cata and skip Lich King for now? Granted, I may change my mind and/or be too poor to spend the money. But I may not.  |

Emerald Dream? I thought you guys said you were on Moon Guard once upon a time.
Actually Warp, you don't need Lich King or Cataclysm until the higher levels unless you want access to the new races/classes.
The old world changes are there for anyone who has at least the base WoW.

Pretty much you will have no problems unless you want to create a Death Knight if and when you hit 55 and/or roll a Worgen or Goblin. The world changes are part of the base game and the expansion is pretty much just the Goblins, Worgen, and the 80-85 stuf. Oh, And you need Cata for the Archealogy Secondary Profession I think. I myself am on Mannoroth. My Warrior just hit 55 yesterday. |

By way of clarification, a bunch of us were on Moon Guard long ago when it was a brand new server and we wanted to take advantage of that. ( I think I may still have an orc shaman there holding onto the "guardian angels" guild name. ) But that never really took off.
Moon Guard has since become known as the most RP of RP servers, especially when it comes to ERP. No I'm not kidding. In the end if you want insane amounts of RP that's the place to go.
However Emerald Dream is unique in that is has the most RP of any PvP server. ( It was the first RP-PvP server long ago. )It's the place with the most hardcore, action packed RP. This is a place where massive story driven world PvP events happen regularly. In addition normal RP and high end PvE also happen just a regularly. All of which makes ED the one realm where you can find everything and anything this game has to offer.
