The bad news is, I'm really frustrated with my PC's performance in SW:TOR; can't really do PvP minis, space missions are rough, and I get some pretty bad frame rate loss in some regular questing zones (Black Suns territory on Coruscant is the worst so far). So I'm unlikely to be on TOR much until I get some upgrades done. The good news is, new motherboard, cpu and ram are on the way from Newegg, so those upgrades should be done this weekend. Goodbye, shitty AMD and DDR2 ram, hello DDR3 and Intel i5 goodness!

Yeah, I haven't tried turning them off actually. It's unlikely to matter though, assuming the bad weather hasn't caused a problem the new stuff should be here tomorrow and my brother in law and I will be installing it Saturday.

Actually, the shadows are a big reason why people have low framerate, for some reason. After turning it off, I can run SWTOR with max world/character textures at a steady FPS rate, instead of the slideshow it was before.

Yeah, I didn't think it would matter at all either. Was plagued with it during the entirety of the stress test beta, but during head start when I first got to the little building where you first meet Havoc Squad on the Trooper starting planet I fiddled around with options and the only thing that gave a positive or negative change to framerate in that area was the shadows setting.
Haven't had a dip into single digit fps since.

Huh. I'll give it a try then. I was just in game with shadows off and it seemed quicker, though not by a game-changing amount, but when I tried to test a PvP mini it let me into the mini and then booted me to the Fleet (not to Taris where I had been) after like 5 seconds. I admit, I ragequit.
