So I got a chance to play the beta...and yeah, I'm glad I didn't pre-order this game.
Wow, you must have exactly the opposite tastes in gaming from me. Granted that is what makes the world Some people like a thing some do not.
With out giving away any NDA I will try to address GV's issues.
1. DA2, dragon age 2 was nearly a great RPG game, sadly for reasons of getting the game shipped they didn't finish the set design. They did some good things with that game which are found in all Bioware RPGs. But because they shipped an unfinished game it failed to impress.
2. You went in to the Beta looking for failure, your tone in the first line. So failure was all you could see. Irregardless of how good the game actually is or is not.
3. When you say it is backwards you give no examples, which means you really have no focus for your hate. If you disliked the game as much as you say you wouldn't care if you break NDA.
4. As for the Animations well they are done in the same way ME2, DA2 where done with added 'Jump' and plenty of Star Wars.
---
I have done many game Betas, and quite a few MMO betas now, so far this is the most polished beta I have seen. However I can still see the Beta in this game. After a full weekend I goto level 23 of 50 playing just my Sith Inquisitor/ Sorcerer Marhiel.
The experience was not 100% perfectly good. However Since they changed a bunch between the last test and this one, I can assure you they are listening to the feed back and fixing things. Is this game like WOW, yes point of fact the game-play is nearly identical. This is a good thing since WOW is a successful model for MMOs, did they do fully acted voiced with cut scenes for all missions. Yes. This helps drop you into the game, you can play the whole thing solo and have a blast. But if you want to team up its an MMO. Kill quests are bonus quests tacked on to actual quests when you kill a mob. No more Orc standing on a farm asking you to kill beasts for revenge.
Issues that I found. which I have given feedback on and which I think they will fix.
1. 16-24 leveling is a bit "grindy" feeling because of long running and few taxi's.
2. NPC rendering Issues.
3. Spawn rates in some areas for quest Items are not fast enough.
4. Class quests dialog not 100% viewable by party members.
Things I liked that they took from other MMOs
1. Instances, from COH. you get private dungeons all the time. Which team mates can join in with.
2. Morality System taken from Bioware RPGs.
3. Traditional MMO user controls and interface, ie "z" sheaths weapon. And you will have a rotation.
4. Skill trees, just like Vanilla WOW.
4a. Clarification, and it is listed at
:
www.mmo-champion.com/threads/874061-SWTOR-information-gathered-thus-far-from-various-sources Your basic class has no skill tree, your choice of advanced class will give you one of two possible skill trees, each of these skill tree will have 3 columns which give you three flavors (PVP, PVE-dps, Class specialty-Heal/tank/rogue... excreta )
5. Yes you gain companions at the end of the start zone which can take all day to get though. This is a good thing since you learn to go at it solo first.
6. This game is not favorable to people rushing to max level for "End Game". There is "End Game" but if you rush you will miss the best part of TOR.
I know lots of people who play WOW will dislike TOR for several simple reasons.
1. Leveling can be fun.
2. Its Sci-FI, its Star Wars, no you can not play an Undead rogue.
3. Horde vs allience is not the same as Empire vs Republic. You can play a good guy Sith, and a Bad Guy Republic. However you know for a fact the Sith Empire is Evil, And the Republic is Good.
4. The Story actually is written well. And the Voice Acting is good.
5. The "Grind" of WOW is one thing TOR is trying to get ride of.
((yes I have friends who love the grind. WOW is chock full of them.))
Well hopefully I didn't break the NDA with this. And I hope others will find out for them selves if they like or dislike the game.
