www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxlwWdZk0qoInteresting trailer I found, couldn't seem to find it without the german subs but meh. I never got around to playing the first guild wars, but this one definatly got on my radar. The combat looks active, alot like CoH with its different powers instead of a generic attack ability. And the whole "game for the player" and "no grinding" stuff in the begining are what I hate about alot of MMOs, but then again I've heard all that before so Ill see if it delivers on that front when it comes out.

Been following this game for a while now. As a veteran of the first, which I enjoyed for the lack of grinding and the story-based missions, I'm looking forward to seeing what the sequal can deliver....and if it will deliver on all its many, shiny promises.

After the beta weekend, this needs a bump.
I am going through some really serious withdrawal at the moment from a weekend of Guild Wars 2 bliss. It's so bad that when I tried to play another MMO after that weekend, I found myself instinctively double tapping my movement keys to try and dodge in combat, and was seriously wondering why it wasn't working.
Guild Wars 2 may just be the best MMO ever. Not even joking. It's that god damn amazing.
Anyone else get a chance to play it over the weekend?

Well, thanks to me sustaining second degree burns to my face and neck last Tuesday while at work, I was able to play for the entirety of the Beta Weekend while I was healing...and holy crap I'm glad I was able to.
Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be something brilliant. I was hooked from minute one and played until the very last minute I was able to. I'm checking my email every day to see when the next Beta Weekend is going to be.
It's been a long, damn time since an MMO grabbed me this thoroughly and likely it'll be a long time yet before another is able to pry me away from Guild Wars 2.

I really enjoyed it, enough that I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'll sit out some of the upcoming beta weekends so that it's still fresh at launch.
The number one thing that impressed me about it was how it removes the hidden antagonism you find in just about every other MMO. You don't have to worry about competing against other players for quest kills - everyone in the area is automatically working on the same public quest. And there's no rolling against other players for loot and the associated drama.
The only real criticism I have is that in many areas, there's only one public quest rated at each character level (or to clarify with an example: an area might only have one level 11 PQ). So sometimes you end up running through the same events, which is fine for dealing with bandits and unruly monster tribes, but doesn't work when you wiped out an enemy base and not long after it's reoccupied and they're assaulting a friendly keep again.

I've read an awful lot good about it, so much that I'd been avoiding it since it seemed like it couldn't possibly live up to the hype. Maybe I'll give it another look when the opportunity presents itself.

I suppose I should go into details.
You can read about a lot of the MMO's features, and it all sounds great, but it isn't till you play it that it all sort of comes together into a cohesive whole. If you just read the articles and blogs about it, it sounds like Guild Wars 2 is trying to do too much, that it's overreaching, that there's no way it can possibly do what it is setting out to do.
The truth is, it does do everything stated in all the articles and blogs and press, and more. And it does it in a cohesive, fluid way. The game is designed to be a PVP game from the ground up. Fast paced combat where movement, position and decision making are more important than the class you play, the abilities you've chosen or the gear you have is the core of the experience. Everything is built and balanced around PVP.
Including, and especially, the PVE. That's where the genius of their design comes in. They created a PVP game, and then worked to bend their PVE content to their PVP design. No more Threat aggregation, no more Taunts, enemies in Guild Wars 2 actually have AI that responds to what players do. They attack targets of opportunity and they are susceptible to most of the same tactics players are susceptible to. It's genius, and it's awesome.
There's no competition for mobs, or loot, or anything like that. In no other MMO have I ever felt like I was actually playing with other players as much as I have in Guild Wars 2. I don't have to kill 20 rats or collect 5 bear asses. Instead I just have to participate in Events and help out NPCs in ways that are collective with the other players around me.
And that brings us to the PVP. It's better than any other MMO out there, and I'd put it up against any non-MMO's competitive gameplay. It's fun, and it's solid.
That's not even getting into the individual classes, the amazing graphics, the beautiful water-color art that is everywhere (including the UI), the personal storylines, the voice acting that is everywhere, the music, and a million other things I'm forgetting.
...if you can't tell by now, I really, really, REALLY liked Guild Wars 2. I did not come in with terribly high expectations. I expected to like it, but not to be blown away by it. I was completely blown away by it. And I'm betting everyone else will be too.

Hey, you all! I hear some of you are interested in playing GW2 when it comes out! What server are you all thinking of? I know Tarnished Coast is gonna be the Unofficial RP server, but not sure if you are all into that stuff.
Let me know!

My wife and I will be playing! We've been wondering if there was ever going to be an RP server, but generally we're just looking for a server with some people we can game with. If you're heading to Tarnished Coast, hit me up!
