Fallin Angels - How do you explain the change?

For those of us who are coming back to a whole new SG this is where we want to describe the backstory of what's been going on, why our heroes left, and why these new groups arose in their place.

The idea that has been tossed around is basically along the lines of the season finale from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1

In short the Guardian Angels are effectively outlawed.

The angels have always been a fringe group, always willing to work with the undesirable, the unwanted, and the downright hated. They've gone so far as to work with criminals on multiple recorded cases. True everything the Angels did was for what they believed was right, but they could have easily pissed off the wrong higher up.

I was thinking perhaps a politician, maybe a senator trying to stir up a cause that will get him votes, decides to make an example of the Angels. Probably with the help of a corrupt journalist or DA agent. They basically brand the entire recorded roster of the Angels as criminals. This forces everyone in the angels to go one of two ways.

Option one; They can turn themselves in, plead their innocence, and opt to stay in GA. This is for anyone who for whatever reason wants to stay with Rorik and friends, after a basic interview it can be assumed these heroes are cleared of all charges and begin to work officially in the new GA.

I spoke with some of the current GA people, including a friend of Rorik, who explained their plans for the SG. Basically GA is becoming Police sponsored. As a branch of the PPD this group gives criminals a chance to change their ways and prove themselves in a sort of superpowered rehabilitation program. I assume if you're here then you probably won't be interested in going this route, but in the interest of completeness, fairness, and cutting off any potential drama quickly, I wanted to provide you all with the info.

As is most likely the case with everyone here, you will be going with Option 2, you leave GA rather then be arrested. Those that left for the most part would end up in New Urban Legends. With the help of friends (not to mention Jack's very large and very well payed Legal Department) it is assumed you eventually are cleared as well, without ever having to admit any wrongdoing or any other concessions. NUL basically picks up the pieces and everyone is able to continue on their heroing careers once more.

There are a few, however, who decide they're not going to put up with anyone's crap anymore. No more red tape, no more political bullshit, no more revolving door prisons. Or maybe for whatever reason trying to prove your innocence legally is not an option, some of the old Angels were only barely tolerated before after all. Either way some of these heroes decide it's time to play by their own rules. Which is where the Blood Angels are born.

For now most people will probably end up in NUL until the base is setup, but ultimately both SGs will be closely associated with each other. Both are setup to be as open ended to allow any sort of character to work among them. The main difference is NUL is a bit more "lawful" in that the people there are, in theory, still technically working within the system. Blood Angles are for the completely vigilante types as this group is no longer playing by anyones' rules but their own.

I've only laid out the basics for now. The hope is people can start providing input as quickly as possible. I will probably be writing up the RP story behind these events if only because I have nothing better to do and I always want to have an RP backstory to EVERYTHING.

But most importantly, your input is very important here. The more feedback and ideas and participation we can get out of everyone the better.

this will be good, Right now Irken is in NUL, and everyone knows he's not a do gooder in the traditional sense. but he likes to stay legal in all things.

Where as Malk is barely hanging on to reality at the moment he/she/it still has no clue where it came from... and in someways doesn't care. legal illegal are non sequitur to Malk. perfect for BA.

And Just for reference Mariel is retired, however over on Preatorian Earth there is a Hero who is very similar. ... Marhiel Martog Dual Pistols...we'll see if she is BA or NUL, also soon very soon Tiburon will be a Hero... Fear him, wonder if he has eased up any on his treatment of Magic/Aliens/Mutants... could he work with a Keld? could he work with a Vampire? these are questions I would love to figure out.

Like, this idea, NUL can be a public face, BA does what needs to be done. Wolfepack becomes a "Fringe" science division supporting both? Almost a challengers of the unknown type group of adventurers setting out on the less tradition crime related stuff. Dimension hopping, dealing with magic, and the like.

This allows the NUL to recruit both types, but have a plausible deniableity, cause lets face it he will kill, but a lot of his more questionable activities were under tacit government approval or overlooked cause he knows where some or th bodies are buried. Given his image he couldn't publicly support Blood Angels, ie associate on regular basis with them, but certainly could tolerate them, and perhaps provide background support.

Maybe that should be the dividing line the heroes not afraid to kill should be in BA, and the ones who try not to should be in NUL...

I don't think it's as simple as Kill or Not Kill. It's more a matter of legality. NUL will be more by the books, at least on the surface. They may have plenty of vigilantes and anti-heroes but technically they're a completely valid, city supported, recognized group. You can still kill, you can still cross the line every now and then, but generally speaking you try not to.

Blood Angels are by comparison total outlaws. You can just imagine the federal government labeling them a terrorist organization. But in the end it doesn't matter what anyone else, even law enforcement, thinks about them, so long as the bad guys pay in the end. That doesn't mean they kill every bad guy they run into, or anyone for that matter, but they shouldn't have a problem crossing the line on a regular basis.

Yeah, from what everyone is talking about it seems the NUL are going to be the general GA style group where all the softies like Shadewing can fit in, whereas the BA will be for the almost over the edge characters who would burn down the entirety of Perez Park just to track down a single villain.

Not that there's anything wrong with burning down the entirety of Perez Park, though...

Yeah, the general idea is that NUL will be the vanilla group, or the most vanilla group anyway. It'll still skew towards freaks and oddballs I would imagine, just by way of what kinds of characters we all tend to play, and I wouldn't say you can't play a vigilante there, but it's basically the GA only backed away a bit from the dark heroes angle. That's The Blood Angels' angle now. And then there's the Wolfe Pack, Sareini's retired heroes group, and whatever else we do up to sort of provide for more specialized concept characters, provided of course that there's enough people who will play characters in those groups regularly to justify their existence; that is to say, something like the horror-themed group I was talking about initially is a bit pointless IMO, since only 2 or 3 players expressed interest and even that would be on alts, plus the relevant sorts of characters would fit in just fine with NUL or TBA.

Same with my federal gun group, though I think the Wolfepack could handle the weird paranormal stuff with a small tweek. I'd like to see us get the first two or three up and running, see if we can support them and get a good a good storyline relationship going between them before we branch out.

Speaking of the storyline relationship, what do you think of the story elements I proposed. That's really what I'd like to focus on first to make sure everyone is happy.

For the moment NUL is the "default" group for everyone with TBA as the back up.

I am not sure I can speak for the rest, but they might agree, that your proposal passed with out the need for a Vote. its a good bit of lore that you came up with, really quickly too, and it was thought through rather well.

Lets see, to add to it.

Mariel in the last few years has been so occupied with her company that she handed in her hero badge over a year ago, and is officially not in any Hero group at the moment.

The Irken Hid when cops came and tried to arrest him but he called everyone telling them that horrible Blue Zombie Robots where out to get him and he needed help, that is when he Joined with NUL and has since been Cleared of any crime, although he is a bit afraid of doing anything that might Draw the attention of the hotdog vendor down the street, so he's acting even stranger than usual.

Malkavian Who, who usually wonders the streets randomly saw the Police raid and sort of wondered off to the rogue Islands for a few weeks after that he/she/it walked to kings row to sit on the old rock when Caios Walked up and Handed ?her? a card with directions and a phone number.

I dig it. It makes sense logically and it's consistent with the GA's history, and it's just plain cool. I may have more to add later, gotta brainstorm a bit.

Shadowstormm, after vanishing off the map for two years, hunting his old man across Europe finally retured to Paragon after said outlawing had been said and done. Basically considered to be taking a sabbatical from the vigilante game due to a severely damaged knee (Which has left him needing to use a cane or knee brace to help him walk) as well as being in a bit of a state of turmoil as to what direction he should take now that his father has been shuffled off his mortal coil.

For now, the quiet life running the Red Mane Armory, a gunstore/gunsmithy in lower Talos Island is his main source of attention.

Ok so here's some background details I've come up with so far for everyone to consider.

Donald Wiessblanco, Esq. - running for U.S. Senate for the state of Rhode Island.
In truth couldn't care less about the state, he's only interested in political power, and the millions in bribes he can make from serving in Washington. The only reason he's even in Rhode Island is for campaigning reasons.
In short, he's a creep, total greasy politician.

Unfortunately during the campaign trail - all based around family values and saving the children and what not - he made the mistake of questioning the moral fiber of some of Paragon's heroes, the sort of questionable type like the monsters and villains who pretend to be heroes.

This backfired a bit as the people of Paragon City were rather fond of the people who risked their lives on a daily basis to save the city and the world. His opponent took advantage of it by taking a "support the heroes" stance. So in an effort to save face, and more importantly get well ahead in the poles, he decided to make an example of a group of heroes.

Granted he had help, specifically in the form of the Malta group who had the resources and capacity to frame an entire group of super heroes, specifically the Guardian Angels. In fact, Malta were the ones who pushed this Senator Wiessblanco into such a tactic so they could eventually force a specific group of heroes into their permanent service.

So with Malta's help the Senator managed to convince a dedicated force in Longbow that the Guardian Angles were all criminals and should be taken down.

Captain Spangler - A Longbow officer known more for his hardass, by the book devotion then for his intellect, gathers up a full scale Longbow task force and pronounces the Angels as criminal outlaws who he insists will be brought to justice.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Feel free to add your own ideas here. I will probably start up a story thread to describe in greater detail everything that happens, and give everyone a chance to respond with their character however they'd like.

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but is Weissblanco (whitewhite) even a real last name? Granted, I'm from an area of the country that's not particularly diverse, but I don't think I've ever seen a multilingual last name like that.
