So I'm playing DCUO for at least the next few days as I'm doing a review for it. Is anyone else playing it as well on the off-chance that we can meet up through all the launch chaos and inevitable bugs?

I played in the Beta and wasn't all that impressed. Still debating on whether or not to pick up my pre-order and keep it just in case they ever add more intresting power sets.

I'm interested in DCUO, but not $50 interested. After the initial rush is over, I'm certain they'll offer a free trial, and that's when I'll give it a go. The art/graphics look great though, I'm itching to try it.
Let us know how it is. If it's good enough, it might be worth laying down $50 for without the trial.

Beta as well and it was Vera stable. I enjoyed the more action oriented take on it and am playing on Virtue

I haven't really been following DCUO at all. What about it makes it distinct from CoH?

Other than being more actiony, having travel from level 1 (flight, super speed, or acrobatics, a less intuitive more basic looking costume creator, less focus on instances, and being set in the DC universe with DC characters, having to equip items to improve stats/get more costume pieces, and having a more mmo-esque progression leveling wise, not much. Basically you choose a primary power set (gadgets, nature, sorcery, mental, fire, or ice) and then a weapon one (martial arts, brawling, 1 handed, 2 handed, staff, bow, dual pistols, rifle, hand blasts) (I might have left some out). 1 level you get Skill points for your Primary Power, and then Power Points for your weapon power, movement power (after level 9), or iconic powers (unlocked at level 10ish. basically lets you use signature powers that DC Heroes and Villians have). A lot of the Green and above equipment has costume pieces attached. When you equip them you are given the choice whether you want it to change your current costume or not. You can also change your costume at any time by going to the style tab in your options. Also the game is very console porty. Basically the mouse only controls the camera. you can't use it to click on ui unless you are in the "pause menu" like menu screens. I say "pause menu" because you can't move around while in it and it cuts to a front view of you character, but action is still happening in the world. They have a badge/achievement equivelant called feats, their storylines are called headlines, their version of explore badges are Green Collection globes usually by the areas you go to for your missions and in the finale instance (for storyline based ones) and in various parts of the city (for the city based ones). edit: Meant to add the link earlier and forgot: here's Giant Bomb's "Quick Look" at the game. Quick Look is in quotes because it's 1 hour, 18 minutes long (give or take a few minutes). It starts with the character creator, goes through the tutorial, and then they do a couple missions.

Watching and waiting, this time around. I'm not really interested in making move until I can get my hands on a trial. I've leapt into newly-released MMOs far too often and been burned by my hastiness, so this one I'm going to sit out and wait for the lustre to wear off before I go jumping in.

So currently the way you get trial passes into the game is you have to get them from someone who bought the game. Each game purchase comes with a 10-day trial pass you can give out to a friend.
...let the begging begin, I guess?

You need the discs to install as well. Otherwise I would have offered mine up.

I've been pottering around trying to find a decent review beyond forum posts still brimming with the 'OMG NEW GAEM IS AEWSOEM!' thing.
Sar, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the game. As someone being rather stringent with his purchases for the next while, I want to know this game is really worth it before I commit to anything.

I would post my review now, but it's not up on the site yet and I think there's probably some rule about exclusivity that would get me in trouble. Hopefully it will be up soon (the editors just moved offices from Amsterdam to LA, so they might be a little behind schedule) and I can post it in full.
In the meantime, though...
- unless you have a gamepad for the PC or can multitask with your fingers, the control system will quite probably drive you crazy. It's a bad console port.
- the chat system is severely limited. And last I checked, the filter was over-sensitive and the name filter wasn't allowing names that contained even partial names of existing DC characters.
- character creation is counter-intuitive in several places, limited to three colours for costumes but you can focus your powers through a weapon which is original at least.

Also the profanity filter will go into effect if an offending word is part of a word or has a space involved. Resuting in gems like
Do***ent (Document) Ca***** in (Cash it in)
etc.
There's the Quick Look video from Giant Bomb I posted a few posts ago that gives a good look at gameplay and character creation. Also someone on youtube has some lets play videos.

So they're in my neck of the woods now. Maybe I should go bug them for a possible job then. Beyond that, I think DCUO sounds interesting, but from everything I've seen of it there's very little reason to get into it while we're playing CoH. In the end CoH beat everyone to the superhero MMO market by 6 years, so they still have the advantage. Also the Marvel MMO will be coming out in a year or so. Not that anyone is supposed to know it's in development or anything.

Eh, I'm not expecting anything out of SWTOR other than a Star Wars WoW clone that isn't as good as WoW.
DCUO interests me because it seems that the core gameplay might be unique and, dare I say it, fun. But I won't be able to make that evaluation until I actually play the game.
